The idea of Arrels Voladores was born when my beloved grandad died and his house (located on a stunning valley in Catalonia's countryside) became empty. I spent the most beautiful moments of my childhood there, so I really wanted to find a way of mantaining the spot. But, of course, there were a lot of animals, fields and installations to mantain, which we couldn't aford to do...unless we started a project.
And it was when looking at the spot with a different point of view when I got concious about the enormous potential that this place had.
The propierty counts with many hectareas that could be used for many types of agriculture, farming, or diveres installations. From there we could get organic vegetables, eggs, fruit, make beer, jam, cheese...-the options were infinite!-. Plus, everyone who visited the place expressed how peacful and inspired hey felt when staying int he valley, so it ocurred to me to also share it with people by restoring the house/rooms so that they could stay there, enjoy workshops in the nature and every idea that may pop into our minds.
Also I'm a huge fan of cooking, and I've been working in many restaurants, so I thought that I could share that skill in there too, using my own products, showing some traditional dishes but also introducing hints from my trips and my imagination. That's where the name "Arrels Voladores" comes from. It means "flying roots" in my language, catalan, and it represents the tradition and nature contact that I'm trying to live, shared with my passion for traveling and learning/creating new points of view.
I also thought about how the infinite posibilities of this valley could help other dreamers, entrepreneurs from the area to get their opportunity: for a beekeeper friend who got his forest burn to get a spot where to start again, for my musicians friends who have difficulties on living from it to get a place where to perform... As a summary, to open Arrels Voladores doors to any proposal and colaboration that could make the project shine more, and also foment the young -or not so young- talents from the area, when mixing music with food, art with nature, sustainability and love.
As a summary, I wish that visitors could see in this project a new way of life, discover new techiniques of self-sufficiency, of cooking, of agriculture. Because there is no better way for discovering new ways of living...than living them -even if it's just for a weekend-.
