Loogic engloba:

When facing scientific study with guarantees and professionalism about a protected species, in addition to all the knowledge accumulated in these last 25 years, we are looking for the use of new technologies that allow us to obtain the maximum information with the minimum discomfort or interference in animal behavior.

The booted eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus), as will be seen in the section on the description of the species, is a protected species at European and state level. We are talking about a medium-sized migrant raptor transahariana, increasing since the 80s the wintering individuals in our country. From the end of March until September, they are in our latitudes in full breeding season. This species builds its nests mainly on trees, although a part of the population of the Balearic Islands prefers the cliffs, cut rocky. In order to avoid the phenomena of predation by carnivorous mammals and other raptors, as well as discomfort derived from human pressure, they locate their nests in inaccessible supports, difficult to access or observe. In the study area, southeast of Valladolid, the trees chosen to build the nests are pine trees, pine trees, poplars ...

Inaccessible nests, very covered by branches and leaves, hidden ... makes it difficult for the ornithologist to observe and obtain data related to aspects as unknown as intercourse, egg laying, hatching, fratricide, night activity ... In addition to these special difficulties in observation, since it is a protected species, in which its control and management is regulated, restrictions are imposed by the Administration on the researcher. More specifically, in the case of this species in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, we are not allowed to install hides (hiding places) fixed or placed in height. In addition to these legal limitations, neither the installation of observation turrets of more than 10 meters with scaffolding, tarpaulins ... This type of structure, in addition to dangerous due to the appalling structure, would also act as an effect called curious, betraying the presence of the nest of the booted eagle.

The world of image and sound, is advancing rapidly and is providing us with new equipment, better features with increasingly reasonable and affordable prices. Increasing image qualities, having left behind the HD (High Definition), 3K. Today, we are working with 4K image qualities. This field of image, through high resolution cameras, provides us with a new resource when it comes to observing the day-to-day life of protected species such as the booted eagleway.

As we can use the image and sound for wildlife control, we have another great resource such as the Internet. This resource that we can include in the installation of a 4K camera, and obtain high resolution images and sounds that reach any mobile device, computer ... At this point, we are already available for an audiovisual equipment that is installed in a tree near a nest of booted eagle, or even in the same tree of the nest, and send to the researcher, to the general public, every second of what happens in the life of a couple of booted eagles. This live bbooted eaglecast, transmission of image and sound through the network with YouTube for example, is what we know as STREAMING. The first live bbooted eaglecast on the Internet, took place in 1995. After 25 years of this fact, this transmission technology has matured, evolved ... allowing us to obtain increasingly higher quality images, in real time, with speeds of high upload and download, event recording, improved chat service ...

The main reason for this LINE 3 of financing within the PENNATUS PROJECT, is the installation of a WEBCAM with STREAMING in an eagle's nest in Herrera de Duero within the study area of ??the species in the southeast of Valladolid.

At this point, we may have doubts about whether this type of installation is possible today in bird nests. I maintain permanent contact with one of the pioneer companies in this type of installation in our country: http://miranatura.com. This company began to install these WebCam in nests of an eagle (Aquila fasciata) in the Parc del Garraf, Parc de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l´Obacy (Barcelona) and black vulture (Aegypius monachus) in Serra de la Tramuntana (Mallorca). From these first experiences, the number of WebCam launched by Miranatura has increased considerably. Pairs of golden eagles, bearded bones, white storks, peregrine falcons have been monitored ...

Since 2017, I have collaborated with two of the organizations that have implemented measures of this type with the causeway eagle: Sierra de Guadarrama National Park (Community of Madrid) and Parc Natural dels Ports in Tarragona. In these two protected areas, there are two WebCam with streaming in two pairs of walkways eagles. The technicians of these protected areas, were marked as one of the main objectives when it comes to the economic, material and human investment of the WebCam, to make known to the population the life of one of the most beautiful species of our geography.

The general objective of the project presented is to install a WEBCAM with STREAMING in a pair of walkways eagles (Hieraaetus pennatus) from Herrera de Duero (Valladolid) bbooted eaglecasting the event for six months through a YOUTUBE channel with CHAT in real time as way of communication between platform users.

More specifically, when implementing such an action, the following objectives are to be achieved:

• Know aspects of the biology and behavior of the species such as dates of arrival of migration, intercourse, nest arrangement, egg laying, incubation, contribution of prey ...

• Introduce one of the species of raptors present in the Iberian Peninsula to the general public from anywhere in the world.

• Exchange of data, knowledge ... between professionals in the field of ornithology and amateurs and nature lovers.

• Provide educational resources to educational centers within their annual program of subjects as knowledge of the environment.

• Provide data, videos, images ... to carry out research studies in students of practices who want to carry out scientific works (thesis, thesis ...).

• Raise funds to invest in the improvement of the service as well as programs for the conservation and improvement of the habitat of the species.

The study area where the work of control and monitoring of the species is carried out, is the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. Within this territorial scope, during the years 2018-2019 the bulk of the research is being carried out in the province of Valladolid, within the municipal terms of Herrera de Duero, Tudela de Duero, La Cistérniga, Aldeamayor de San Martín and La Parrilla . This grid is located southeast of Valladolid capital. The work area has an area of ??about 2524.93 hectares, in which about 27 pairs of walkway eagles are controlled. These data show a high density of couples, 1 pp per 0.90 km2 (90.18 hectares). To carry out the work of control and monitoring of the species, the administrative authorizations required of the General Directorate of the Natural Environment of the Ministry of Development and Environment of Castilla y León, as well as the Territorial Environment Service of Valladolid (EP / CYL / 37/2019).

The project presented will be launched by Ignacio S. García Dios, a biologist with extensive experience in the field of ornithology since 1996.

Stay as a Researcher at the National Museum of Natural Sciences of Madrid belonging to the CSIC. Since 1996, it has been monitoring and monitoring the population of the booted eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus) in the Tiétar Valley, south of Gredos and the Moraña Region (Ávila). As of 2014, continue researching the species in Ávila and Valladolid. Author of several publications in national and international scientific journals (Ardeola, Journal of Raptor Research) as well as informative journals such as Quercus. Author of the record of the species in the Virtual Encyclopedia of Vertebrates of the CISC and in the Aceytuno Environment Dictionary. Author of several books on identification and methods of pest control in urban areas.

Since 2000 he has been working as a Teacher in the Joint Program of the Ministry of Economy and Employment of the Board of Castile and Leon in Certificates of Professionalism such as Gardening, Restoration of Degraded Areas ... In these training programs he teaches the Training Module concerning the Determination of the sanitary state of soils and plants as well as pesticide application equipment. He teaches training courses in Phytosanitary Products Handler Basic and Qualified for private training companies. Teacher of the Unemployed Oriented Training Plan (FOD) of the Junta de Castilla y León, providing training activities for Pest Control Services (SEAG0110). Author of several manuals for private companies such as T + Manual, CMRs and Gases. He has a blog about the eagle on the booted eagle related to his research (https://aguilillacalzada.blogspot.com.es).

MIRANATURA Company (www.miranatura.com), responsible for the assembly, installation, commissioning of the WebCam, event issuance, maintenance.

Thanks to the extensive knowledge that we have of the pairs of eagles present in the study area regarding the arrival date of the migration and wintering, we will begin the assembly work of the WebCam, power supply ... during the month of February . The couple selected to carry out this research project is located in the municipality of Herrera de Duero (Valladolid). They are two adults of clear morpho. The couple has been known since 2018, having taken two light morpho chickens in that year, and in 2019 a single light morpho chicken. The date of arrival of this couple, thanks to the installation of photocamera cameras in the nest tree during this 2019 season, was the 28/03 the female named Lucia and the 3/30 the male named Tejón.

The camera will be installed in the nest tree of the aforementioned couple. The nest tree is a resin pine (Pinus pinaster) with upper branches presenting a suitable thickness to support the weight of the installation. The height at which the camera will be located will be around 15 meters high. The MIRANATURA company has the climbing staff and technical staff for the work at height and installation of this recording system. The camera that will be installed will record and emit a 4K quality image with 3.5x remote optical zoom with external microphone and specific memory card of this high-strength 256GB camera model.

In addition to the camera, an invisible IR 940 nm exterior focus will be installed.

940nm infrared flashlight This type of focus emits a much more undetectable wavelength for the animals we want to record, hence we can obtain night recordings so far not available on the booted eagles.

The power supply for the camera to record, emit through the network ... will be obtained from a photovoltaic plate sized to operate 24 hours at 270W and 200 Ah. The photovoltaic installation will be installed at the top of another of the pines near the nest, in this way we avoid damage caused by wildlife or acts of vandalism or theft of the plate. The conduction from the photovoltaic plate to the camera, as well as the transmission of data, will be carried out thanks to the installation of a piped cable to minimize possible damage caused by wildlife.

To complete the installation in terms of the transmission of the data to the network, launching the event on YouTube ... supports of access / transmission access points, external wiring reception access point up to Router, base will be installed in the area electric Switch, Ethernet hoses ... To finish the installation, you will have a PC for streaming and remote control to modify the camera settings, recording and downloading data ...

During the months of February and March, the relevant tests will be carried out by the company's technicians to check the perfect framing of the camera, zoom operation, network bandwidth, emission rate, power supply ...

The WebCam would be configured and bbooted eaglecasting from the second half of March, in order to check the arrival of each of the members of the couple. The emission of the events will extend from that fortnight of March, until the end of September, at which time the booted eagles will leave the territory to begin their migration and wintering. As a leap in quality with respect to the other two WebCam of booted eagles, the proposal made in this project will provide night bbooted eaglecast, something unprecedented in this type of equipment. Other innovative features of this proposal, is that on the platform where the WebCam will be displayed, a lower screen will be added where you will see at each moment where the couple's male and female are located, which will have been equipped a GPS / GSM transmitter. In this way, we will have a visual, graphic, map of each adult's location with respect to the central position of the nest.

All bbooted eaglecasts will be recorded on the hard disk present in the installation in 4K quality. Those responsible for the camera, will periodically configure the zoom so that users can continue to follow the development of the couple's reproduction, without missing the details, behaviors ... more interesting. For example, zoom will be removed to see couple's intercourse, contribution of branches ... More zoom will be introduced when we want to observe the laying of eggs, hatching, fattening ...

Together with the image, sound and location of adults, a chat moderated by the main researcher will be enabled on the web where they will explain, expand ... the different behaviors that are displayed, questions and questions that arise in users of the WebCam ... The explanations will be complemented by the information collected in the blog about the researcher's eagle, https://aguilillacalzada.blogspot.com/
